Patients’ Rights
As a patient registered with our practice, you have the right to:
- Access to Care
Receive appropriate and timely access to NHS services in line with clinical need and current capacity.
- Safe and High-Quality Treatment
Expect care to be provided by appropriately qualified clinical staff, following evidence-based practice and applicable NHS and regulatory standards.
- Respect, Dignity, and Non-Discrimination
Be treated with dignity, privacy, and respect at all times, regardless of age, sex, gender, disability, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or background.
- Informed Participation in Care
Receive clear explanations about diagnosis, investigations, treatment options, expected outcomes, risks, and alternatives in order to make informed decisions about your care.
- Confidentiality and Data Protection
Expect that medical information will be kept confidential and handled in accordance with data protection legislation and NHS information governance standards.
- Access to Personal Health Information
View your medical records and request copies in line with data protection law and practice procedures.
- Choice and Preferences
Express preferences regarding a named GP, method of consultation, or mode of contact where reasonably achievable.
- Feedback, Complaints, and Redress
Provide feedback, raise concerns, or make complaints without prejudice and receive a timely and transparent response in accordance with NHS complaints procedures.
- Advocacy and Support
Be supported by an advocate, friend, or carer during consultations where appropriate.
Patients’ Responsibilities
In order to support safe and effective care, patients are expected to:
- Treat Staff and Other Patients with Respect
Behave in a courteous and non-abusive manner. The practice operates a zero-tolerance policy for violent, aggressive, discriminatory, or abusive behaviour.
- Attend Appointments or Cancel Promptly
Attend appointments punctually and cancel as early as possible if you no longer require them, so that they may be offered to others.
- Provide Accurate Information
Give accurate and up-to-date information about medical history, medication, allergies, and contact details, and notify the practice of any changes.
- Follow Agreed Treatment Plans
Where you have agreed a treatment plan with a clinician, make best efforts to follow it, and inform the practice if you decide not to proceed.
- Use NHS Services Responsibly
Access urgent and emergency care appropriately and use the practice’s appointment and triage systems as intended, so that resources are available for those with greatest clinical need.
- Participate in Health Promotion
Take reasonable steps to maintain your own health, including attending scheduled reviews, vaccinations, medication monitoring, and screening appointments when offered.
- Respect Practice Policies and Procedures
Comply with administrative requirements such as registration documentation, repeat prescription timelines, medication reviews, and safe prescribing protocols.
